Renting tips & advice

Do Your Research

An apartment guide for the city of Baltimore is published in the city's papers daily and weekly. You could begin your search there, but you might miss out on an opportunity to rent when an apartment becomes available and is rented on the same day. Not only do you have competition for apartment finding with other tenants who are moving into Baltimore, but you also have competition from the several hundred thousand residents who may be trading up or trading down their apartments and will see the rental signs on the streets before the classified ads go to print.

Respect Your Budget

Baltimore apartments have a great number of features and amenities in store for renters of all price points.  Focus your apartment search on properties that match your core needs such as location and price before considering other add items from your wish list like indoor swimming pools, private roof decks and onsite gyms and fitness centers.

Look For Apartments Near Campus

Baltimore is a college town. It is home to John Hopkins University and training hospital. As such, you may also find rooms for rent or cheap studio apartments within the vicinity of John Hopkins campuses, or near any of the other colleges that call Baltimore home. Additionally, degrees in engineering, science and clinical research and medical fields are all encouraged, and if you hold one of these degrees, you are also encouraged to apply for employment here. Some companies will even pay for your apartment and help you relocate to Baltimore as part of your benefits package.
