For the most part, finding apartments to rent outside of the major and minor cities of Pennsylvania may be difficult. More common are townhouses for rent. Generally, the rent is higher for less space in the city areas. In turn, the rent is lower or about the same for more space in the rural areas. In the more rural suburb areas, renters will find above ground pools to be a regular feature. The hot summer sun in the valleys and plains of the state make this a necessity along with central conditioning. Older houses, particularly those built before the 1990s do not have central air.
